This Acoustic Guitarist is a Brighton-based guitarist and composer. Dedicating much of his time to the tuning DADGAD, he exploits the instrument's many facets to create eclectic modern lullabies for the steel strung acoustic guitar, using new dynamics and approaches in his pieces.
With strong influences from the sounds of jazz, classical and folk music, his compositions are reminiscent of many different styles. Each piece provokes feelings that are very vivid, the music
capable of being both gentle and harmonically intense. His use of counterpoint allows a rich tapestry of ideas to develop from a single guitar.
Recent live performances include Sidmouth Folk Festival, Crawley Folk Festival, 93 Feet East (Brick Lane, London), the Lewes Guitar Festival, The Chapel Royal (Brighton), Small World Festival, One World Festival, support for folk legends Waterson Carthy, guitarist Pierre Bensusan, Nick Harper, Joe West and Julian Dawson, several live radio sessions for BBC Southern Counties, Juice FM, Radio Reverb, Resonance FM, Radio 4A, Radio Asturias (with Alberto Toyos), Radio 5 RNE and Onda Cero Radio (Spain), and three Spanish tours, including dates in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Galicia, the Basque Country, Oviedo, Gijon and Aviles.
In 2006, Guitarist Magazine published an interview with him. Other articles last year include Acoustic Magazine, Rocks Magazine, Guitarra Total (2007, Spain), and online review sites such as Minor 7th and Bridge Guitar Reviews. In 2006 he also appeared on Cuatrosfera, a Spanish national television program.
"A brilliantly talented young artist, with a broad palette of styles mixed seamlessly together on this album. Mixing influences to create something quite new in this set of instrumentals, his created a very deep and engaging piece of work. (") anyone with an appreciation for the fusion of ideas should love "To Sleep"." - Sam Wise, Acoustic Magazine 2006
" an emerging acoustic instrumentalist with blazing technique, ensuring the fingerpicking tradition remains in safe hands." - Owen Bailey, Guitarist Magazine 2006
"Very rarely is technical wizardry on an instrument used to say something that otherwise could not be said. He manages that and it's a pleasure to hear. One man, an acoustic and (apparently) four hundred thousand fingers." - Giles Duffy, Rocks Magazine 2006
"Westwood is prodigiously talented and able to create musical landscapes that are abstract, yet always energetic." - Patrick Regains, Minor Seventh 2006
" An astonishing acoustic guitar talent, he presents his very own approach to music. He surely impresses as a guitar player and composer as well as with his new album "To Sleep". Check him out!" - Henk de Veldhuis, Bridge Guitar Reviews 2006
"He's an exceptional player, and it's very difficult to find a genre that accurately describes his style of playing. (") His style combines elements of jazz, folk, classical and gipsy, all delivered without the slightest whiff of the stuffiness that can come with some of those genres." - Phil Jackson, BBC Southern Counties 2006
