Biography
This guitarist is a solo fingerstyle acoustic guitarist based in the heart of the Chilterns.
Her trademark style features lyrical melodies with rich chordal accompaniment, reflecting her wide range of musical influences.
With an eclectic repertoire, which includes popular classics, celtic, blues, jazz and original compositions, she can provide music appropriate for your venue.
After picking up a recorder at the age of 3 and learned to read music before being able to read words. She started taking classical guitar lessons at the age of 10 and rapidly progressed through the Trinity syllabus, whilst also learning to play flute and saxophone. Somewhere along the line, an acoustic guitar entered the house. It once got taken to a classical guitar lesson…not exactly a well-received move!! A-levels arrived, and Gill’s guitar playing took a back seat, until, more than 15 years later, she was given a cd by Australian fingerstyle legend Tommy Emmanuel. Upon hearing the opening notes of the opening track, Gill knew it was time to pick up a guitar again and to learn how to play acoustic fingerstyle guitar. The rest, as they say, is history.
Appearances at local open mics soon established a following for ‘the girl who plays guitar’ and gigs supporting well-known names on the fingerstyle circuit, such as Clive Carroll (UK), Bruce Mathiske (Australia) and Gareth Pearson (UK) followed. After a highly successful EP, Gill’s debut cd ‘Shooting Star’ was released in February 2009.
